The VAST Team (VisAnalysis Systems Technologies) performs applied research and development on scientific visualization and analysis, as well as standard web-based technologies. We are part of the Earth System Science Center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), and located within the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC).

Our focus has been on producing core capabilities, tools, and data services to enhance researcher and vertical market abilities to understand and utilize earth science data. Our primary activities have been directed toward:

• Improving integration of multiple data sets which are disparate in space, time or other dimensions.
• Improving core capabilities for handling disparate data within native spatial and temporal domains.
• Improving core capabilities for on-demand geolocation and processing of dynamic sensor data within end-user tools.

We are currently intimately involved in enabling and implementing Sensor Webs under the Open Geospatial Consortium's (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) initiative.  The Sensor Model Language (SensorML) was created by the UAH VAST team leader and we remain its chief architects.
